Webmasters( - people who own,manage websites) often ask , "How do I get many visitors to my website?", "How to increase my website's traffic?", "My website is completed but no visitors.", "What are the tricks for increasing my visitors/getting more visitors?", "Where do I get traffic for my website?".
Visitors are the success of a website, a website without visitors is like a river without water, or an airline without passengers.
Visitors affect the earnings of a webmaster as more visitors give more ad. exposure(impressions) and clicks. So, it is normal when a webmaster or wapmaster gets frustrated if his quest of getting more traffic fails. He may even start spamming on other websites just to get the traffic!
First of all, if you have any visitors at all, keep updating you website with mouthwatering updates. That will do the magic as your old visitors will come back yelling for more. Meanwhile they may tell some of their friends about the goodies they are getting in your website and their freinds start visiting your website also.
The second one may be called a 'newbie advice': Submit your website to search engines and directories. There are hundreds of search engines out there willing to crawl your website. Some of them include: Google, Yahoo! search, Ask.com,Skweezer, Aol.com,Baidu etc. Search engines sends a visitor to your website when the vistor searches for a term or keyword that is found in your website.
Another way to get visitors on your website is advertising. Advertise your website on good advertisment programmes like Adwords, Bidvertiser.
One of my favorite radio stations say, "The benfits of advertising are endless (and will certainly manifest on your business)."
Advertising brings traffic to your website, the new visitors may even click your own adverts(the ones you display on your website), thereby earning you back the money you have spent on advertising. But the most important aspect is that, your website goes down their memory lane and they may decide to visit again some other day. This is when a good website logo comes handy. If your logo is attractive and shouting(like mine), the visitors only need to glance at it and thats it - they save your website on their brains' hard disk.
