How to unlock the memory card of your Symbian phone

Symbian phones has the capability for the user to lock his/her memory card with a security password. Once locked, the memory card will request for the unlock password when inserted in another phone. First of all, let's get the memory card's password, then we will learn how to remove the password.

Procedure to get back your Symbian phone's memory card password:


1. Download, install and launch X-plore on your phone. Press "0" to open the configuration.
2. Tick the first and fourth boxes - "Show hidden files" and "Show system files/folders".
3. Go to C:\ , scroll to the "sys" folder.
4. You will find a file named "mmcstore"
5. Press 3 while the cusor is focused on the file mmcstore.
6. Your password must be smiling at you by now. You may see some invalid characters like ??¨??À?e)??, ignored them and write out only the valid letters and number. That is your password.

To remove your memory card's password:


7. Click the "menu" button, locate and open "Memory card" in the Tools folder.
Press "Options">"Remove password".
8. Enter your password and click "OK".

To change your memory card's password:


9. Click the "menu" button, locate and open "Memory card" in the Tools folder.
Press "Options">"Change password".
10. Enter your new disired password in the first and second password, click "OK".

A locked memory card will not display its contents when you slot it to a computer (I checked on Windows XP) until the password is removed. Reasons for locking your may card may include privacy and security reasons. Trouble starts when we forget our memory card password or somebody else locks it away from you, thats when we need this tutorial.
